REMO Affiliates with SupportMusic.com Initiative To Keep Music in Schools |
Valencia, CA, July 11, 2006 -- REMO, an innovator in the world of drumheads,
drums and percussion accessories, has affiliated with SupportMusic.com, the
Music Education Coalition’s initiative and the source of information for
grassroots efforts to support school music programs. This affiliation
brings REMO into a valuable network that seeks to advance the coalition’s
advocacy mission to keep music strong in schools.
www.SupportMusic.com was launched by the Music Education Coalition, an
entity formed by the International Music Products Association (NAMM) and the
National Association for Music Education (MENC).
REMO founder Remo Belli, who also helped launch the Percussive Arts Society,
another SupportMusic member, has consistently responded to the needs of
educators by producing instruments that are ideally suited for use by
students as they develop and learn. For decades, educators who support the
addition of music instruction in every child’s education have incorporated
REMO products into their teaching curriculums. Early childhood educator Lynn
Kleiner partnered with REMO to develop her own line of children's
instruments. Will Schmid, past president of MENC and a world drumming
expert who is actively involved in his community as well as author Dr. Craig
Woodson, who has developed a “Roots of Rhythm” musical curriculum for K-8
students, have both incorporated REMO products into their educational
programs.
“We are very pleased to be a part of the SupportMusic coalition,” says John
Fitzgerald, Manager of Recreational Music Activities. “The coalition
delivers a vitally important message from the education and music industry
communities about the power of music making to bring value and innovation
back into the public education system.”
Always a forward-thinking company, REMO also understands the importance of
offering tools that build the musical community. REMO’s popular drum
circles span the demographic spectrum, impacting the Recreational Music
Making (RMM) movement, which seeks to make music enjoyable and accessible.
REMO also encourages music making for wellness with its newest program
HealthRHYTHMS, which promotes drumming as an effective means for maintaining
health and well-being. These and other dynamic drumming classes are offered
at REMO’s Recreational Music Center in North Hollywood.
SupportMusic coalition affiliates, REMO and over 100 other organizations,
are part of the national task force devoted to ensuring that every child has
access to music as part of a quality education. Coalition members serve as
resources for one another across the country as they strategize to defend
and save at-risk music and arts programs in the nation’s classrooms.
Strategies include monthly conference calls with the entire coalition,
collective grassroots community efforts wherever the need arises and the
sharing of experience and ideas to form the best strategies.
