Doubles strokes - Triplet Feel continued
Now it's time to apply the double stroke with triplet feel to the entire kit. Using any one of the 4 patterns learned in lesson 1, split the left and right hand up by playing the doubles on a separate drum or cymbal. Do not try and split a double stroke between two separate drums or cymbals. Always finish the double stroke out on what you started on before moving to another drum or cymbal. Remember to play to a metronome and keep each stroke consistent and even. This is where you can experiment and play the pattern using the entire kit by moving the doubles around to different drums and cymbals. You will get some really cool sounding patterns that will make for some really awesome fills. You will even find some patterns that you could even use as a main groove. You can take this idea and go as far as you want with it. Try substituting the bass drum for some of the doubles in the pattern. Your feet are just as important as your hands when it comes to drumming. Use the feet in this excercise by substituting the bass drum for some of the doubles in the pattern.
